Håvard Wiik
Håvard Wiik (born March 10, 1975 in Frei , Nordmøre ) is a Norwegian jazz pianist , arranger and composer.
Career
Wiik became known in 1992 for his appearance at the Molde International Jazz Festival and studied at the Trondheim Conservatory of Music from 1994 to 1996 , where he played in the quartet Element with saxophonist Gisle Johansen , bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love . In 1999 he founded the formation Atomic with Flaten, Love and the Swedish musicians Magnus Broo and Fredrik Ljungkvist . He also plays with Flaten in Ken Vandermark's trio ( Furnace, 2002) and in a duo with tenor saxophonist Håkon Kornstad on the album Eight Tunes We Like (2003). Wiik has also worked for Arild Andersen , Karin Krog , Petter Wettre ( Pig Virus , 1996), Mads La Cour and with international artists such as Chris Potter , Mark Turner and Iain Ballamy .
Viik is currently working with his Håvard Wiik Trio with bassist Mats Eilertsen and drummer Per Oddvar Johansen and recorded the album Postures (2003) for the Jazzland label . He received numerous awards in Norway, most recently the Vitalprisen at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in 2006 .
