Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (born September 23, 1971 in Oppdal ) is a Norwegian jazz bassist.

Live and act

The son of an organist grew up with six musical siblings. He first played the piano and guitar and then switched to bass guitar and acoustic bass. From 1992 to 1994 he attended the Trøndelag Conservatory of Music , where he studied with the bassist Odd Magne Gridseth , the saxophonist Jon-Paal Inderberg and the pianist Erling Aksdal .

He has lived in Oslo as a professional jazz musician since 1995, where he has worked with groups such as The Source , Element (with Håvard Wiik ), the Maria Kannegård Trio and the Petter Wettre Trio . Between 1997 and 2004 he toured with Bugge Wesseltoft's group New Conceptions of Jazz . Together with Wesseltoft he performed with musicians such as John Scofield , Joshua Redman and Erik Truffaz .

Then he worked a. a. with the groups Atomic , The Thing (with Mats Gustafsson and Paal Nilssen-Love ), the Scorch Trio (with Raoul Björkenheim ), The Electrics (with Axel Dörner ), Free Fall (with Ken Vandermark ), Close Erase (with Christian Wallumrød ) and the Tore Brunborg Kvartett . He also worked with rock bands such as Motorpsycho and Cato Salsa Experience and performed at the Rikskonsertene with Palestinian and Indian musicians.

Flaten worked on more than forty albums and worked as a musician a. a. with Evan Parker , Paul Lytton , Joe McPhee , Joe Lovano , Yusef Lateef , Tony Oxley , Iain Ballamy , Dave Liebman , Chris Potter , Zim Ngqawana , Benoît Delbecq , L. Subramaniam , Billy Cobham , Neneh Cherry , Eivind Aarset , Nils Petter Molvæ and Jean-Luc Ponty .

In 2003 Flaten released the solo album Double Bass . In 2004 he received the Vitalprisen at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival .
