Eivind Aarset (born March 23, 1961 in Drøbak ) is a Norwegian jazz guitarist and composer.

Life

Eivind Aarset went to school in Oslo from 1977 to 1980, where he majored in music. From 1982 to 1983 he studied music at the University of Oslo. From 1983 he works as a professional musician. Aarset began his musical career as a guitarist in a heavy metal band. Later he switched to the jazz band Ab and to , then belonged to the ensemble of Bendik Hofseth and finally got to know Bugge Wesseltoft , on whose label Jazzland Records his debut album Électronique Noire was released. Aarset had previously worked on over 150 albums as diverse as Ray Charles , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Ute Lemper , Ketil Bjørnstad , Mike Mainieri , Arild Andersen , Abe Laboriel , Django Bates , Rebekka Bakken and Cher . In his solo albums, Aarset combines jazz with electronic music.

Aarset is best known for his collaboration with Nils Petter Molvær , whose albums he significantly influenced with his unmistakable sound. In 2012 he recorded an album on the renowned label ECM Records . He often works with Jan Bang .
