Kjetil Bjerkestrand

Kjetil Bjerkestrand (born May 18, 1955 ) is a Norwegian organist, pianist and film music composer.

Bjerkestrand, the son of an organist, studied organ at the Oslo Music Academy. As a cantor he discovered the organ as an improvisational instrument; later from this interest u. a. the albums Gull, røkelse og myrra and Prima luna with Tore Brunborg .

Bjerkestrand also worked as a composer, arranger, music producer and studio musician. For several years he worked in Paris with the American singer Dee Dee Bridgewater . Here he also wrote arrangements for Ray Charles . He recorded several albums with the pop group a-ha . With their singer Morten Harket he performed in a duo. With the a-ha pianist Magne Furuholmen he founded the group Timbersound and played film music a. a. to Hotel Oslo and Hermetic . He also appeared as the piano accompanist for the singers Sissel Kyrkjebø and Rebekka Bakken ( I Keep my Cool ). He was also involved in the album Électronique Noire (1998) by Eivind Aarset .

Another area of ​​activity Bjerkestrand is working on is film music. So he wrote u. a. the music for the famous children's film Karlsson vom Dach by Astrid Lindgren .
