Rune Grammofon is a Norwegian record label founded in 1998.

History and direction

The label Rune Grammofon was founded in 1998 by Rune Kristoffersen and is based in Oslo . It's a one man company. In November 2003 the label began the release of its thirtieth album with the publication of a book, supplemented by a double CD compilation. In 2010 the 100th Rune gramophone album was released.

The label primarily publishes music by Norwegian artists. The music typical of Rune Grammofon spans ambient , experimental electronics , new improvisation music , progressive rock and jazz .

From 2000 to 2005 the albums were distributed by ECM , which helped the artists to gain increased audience attention. They are now distributed in Germany by Cargo Records .

Rune Grammofon publishes music by the improvisation group Supersilent by Arve Henriksen as well as the solo projects of their members such as the Deathprod project . Other artists who work with the label include: Shining , Bushman's Revenge , Susanna and the Magical Orchestra , Jono El Grande, Skyphone, Alog, Phonophani and Food, Sidsel Endresen , Motorpsycho and Stian Westerhus . The label also released albums by Magne Furuholmen , Kjetil Bjerkestrand and Freddie Wading ( Hermetic, 1999), the band Spunk (1999), Fartein Valen (1999), Luigi Archetti / Bo Wiget ( Low Tide Digital, 2001), Arve Henriksen ( Sakuteiki , 2001), the Scorch Trio from Raoul Björkenheim , Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love (2002), from Nils Økland ( Bris , 2004), the jazz ensemble Espen Eriksen Trio and the band Humcrush (from Ståle Storløkken and Thomas Strønen ) and the Hedvig Mollestad Trio . Also albums from the Swedish project Fire! about Mats Gustafsson and his large-format extension Fire! Orchestra appear on Rune, as does his duet recording with Colin Stetson .

Rune Grammofon operates two sub-labels, Rune Arkiv and The Last Record Company.

Art works

According to the label's website, Rune Grammofon deliberately refrains from using plastic covers for its albums and publishes them as digipaks , the artwork of which is all designed by Kim Hiorthøy.
