Supersilent is a Norwegian jazz group .

history

Supersilent was founded as a quartet in Bergen in 1997 when Arve Henriksen (trumpet), Jarle Vespestad (drums) and Ståle Storløkken (keyboards) , who have been playing together as Veslefrekk for 10 years, spontaneously gave a concert at the local jazz festival with producer and sound engineer Helge Sten ( aka Deathprod ) gave. In 2009 Vespestad left the band, which from now on functions as a trio.

The group played with Nils Petter Molvær , Motorpsycho , Stian Westerhus , John Paul Jones and Terje Rypdal (2007 on Moldejazz ).

Until 2014, all of Supersilent's albums were released on the Norwegian independent label Rune Grammofon . 13 was released by Smalltown Supersound in 2016.

style

The musicians from Supersilent do not rehearse together and, according to their own statements, never talk to each other; their music is completely improvised, they communicate through eye contact while playing. They largely dispense with overdubs and rely on minimal post-production . The style changed over time, but mostly combines elements of free improvisation , electronic music and rock . The first album was described as "wild, percussive free jazz with elements of electronics à la Aphex Twin ".

The albums and tracks of the group are numbered, they have no titles. Pieces that were published on any regular album, but contributed only a compilation, in addition to a C provided.
