Arve Henriksen (born March 22, 1968 in Stranda ) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ).

Live and act

Henriksen studied at the Trondheim Conservatory from 1987 to 1991 . Since 1989 he has been working professionally as a musician. He has performed with musicians such as Anders Jormin , Edward Vesala , Jon Christensen , Audun Kleive , Nils Petter Molvær , Mikhail Alperin , Arkady Shilkloper , Marc Ducret , Bjørn Kjellemyr , Sten Sandell , Frode Gjerstad , Peter Friis Nielsen , Stian Carstensen , Trygve Seim , Edward Vesala, Marilyn Mazur , Marilyn Crispell and Terje Isungset . He is also a member of Jon Balke's Magnetic North Orchestra . With Helge Sten , Ståle Storløkken and Jarle Vespestad he founded the quartet Supersilent , which released several albums on Rune Grammofon . He also worked with the Japanese koto player Satsuki Odamura and the rock band Motorpsycho .

His first solo album Sakuteiki was released in 2001 , the title comes from a Japanese work on Japanese gardening from the 11th century. 2004 was created in collaboration with Audun Kleive and Jan Bang Chiaroscuro . Chiaroscuro is the Italian name for the light and dark painting of the late Renaissance and Baroque. In December 2008 Henriksen finally released his first solo album, Cartography, on ECM , after having previously worked on around 25 ECM albums. He recorded the soundtrack for Torun Lian's feature film Victoria (2013) with Bang, Erik Honorè, Tigran Hamasyan and Robert Jürjendal . He also recorded a duo album with Teun Verbruggen .

The album Rímur by Trio Mediaeval & Arve Henriksen, released in 2017 by ECM, was recorded in February 2016 in the Munich Ascension Church and produced by Manfred Eicher.

Prizes and awards

In 2005 Henriksen was awarded the Buddyprisen , Norway's most important jazz prize. In 2007 he was awarded the Radka Toneff Minnepris at the Moldejazz festival . In 2011 he received the Paul Acket Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival .
