Tigran Hamasyan ( Armenian Տիգրան Համասյան , Tigran Hamasjan * 17th July 1987 in Leninakan ) is an Armenian jazz pianist .

Live and act

Tigran Hamasyan received classical piano lessons as a child and won his first music competitions after his family moved to Yerevan in 1997 . At the international jazz festival in Yerevan in 2000 he met Chick Corea and Stéphane Kochoyan. Through the festival organizer Kochoyan, Hamasyan was given the opportunity to appear at numerous major festivals in France. a. made the acquaintance of Pierre Michelot and Daniel Humair . Winning the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and releasing his debut album World Passion (2006) finally helped Hamasyan achieve a breakthrough. He has been based in New York City since 2009 . The Québec newspaper Le Devoir selected his album A Fable as one of the five best new jazz releases of 2011. In 2012, Stéphane Galland brought him to his band Lobi . He recorded the soundtrack for Torun Lian's feature film Victoria (2013) with Arve Henriksen , Jan Bang , Erik Honorè and Robert Jürjendal .
