Louis Moutin (* 24. December 1961 in Paris ) is a French jazz - drummer .

Moutin learned to play the piano by himself at the age of seven and turned to drums around 1980. In 1985 he completed an engineering degree from the École Centrale in Paris. Then he decided to devote himself entirely to his musical interests. He became a member of Jean-Marie Machado's jazz trio and was soon a sought-after drummer at Europe's jazz festivals.

In 1990 he founded his own group with his twin brother, the bassist François Moutin , from which the Moutin Reunion Quartet emerged in 1988 , which includes the Moutin brothers Pierre de Bethmann as pianist and Rick Margitza as saxophonist.

He worked with musicians such as Martial Solal , Antoine Hervé , Michel Portal , François Jeanneau , Manuel Rocheman , Michel Legrand , Christian Escoudé , Albert Mangelsdorff , Andy Emler , Nguyên Lê , Jean-Michel Pilc , Éric Le Lann , Laurent Dehors , Simon Spang -Hanssen , Danilo Pérez , John Abercrombie , Larry Schneider , Toots Thielemans , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Didier Lockwood , Markus Stockhausen and Johnny Griffin .

In 2005 he and his brother received the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt .
