Eric Le Lann

Éric Le Lann (born November 4, 1957 ) is a French jazz trumpeter and composer.

Le Lann has lived in Paris since 1977 , where he won the La Défense national jazz competition in 1979 . Since 1980 he has worked with the quartets of René Urtreger and Henri Texier . In 1981 he did a series of concerts with Pepper Adams and became a member of Patrice Caratini's group and the Martial Solal big band .

In 1982 he founded his own quartet with André Ceccarelli , Cesarius Alvim and Olivier Hutman . The following year he received the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt of the Académie du Jazz . After touring India, he appeared in Bertrand Tavernier's 1985 film Autour de minuit with Dexter Gordon , Herbie Hancock and Billy Higgins . He has also composed film scores for Didier Haudepin Film Elsa, Elsa and Benoît Jacquots Film Corps et bien . In 1986 he starred in the legendary jazz film Round Midnight .

In 1989 he founded a fusion jazz ensemble with Louis Winsberg and Paco Séry . In the 1990s he performed in Asia and Africa and recorded an album with chansons by Édith Piaf and Charles Trenet . He also worked with Michel Graillier , Martial Solal and Archie Shepp .

In 1999 he composed the score for Gilles Bourdos ' film Disparos and for a documentary by Valérie Stroh about Simone de Beauvoir . He worked as a musician on Bertrand Blier's film Les Acteurs .

Le Lann founded the École de création musicale in Rennes , which was relocated to Dinan in 2003 . For the music to Jean-Bernard Pouy's piece 54x13 he received the 2001 music criticism's great prize. For the 2002 Inter Celtique Festival in Lorient , he composed a piece for twenty-five musicians. In 2005 he recorded compositions by Antônio Carlos Jobim with the guitarist Jean-Marie Ecay .

Private

Le lann lives with the French actress, writer and director Valérie Stroh. They have two daughters together. Lola Le Lann is also dedicated to acting.
