Jean-Michel Pilc (born October 19, 1960 in Paris ) is a French jazz pianist and composer.

Pilc, who learned to play jazz piano by himself, played in Paris with Martial Solal , Daniel Humair , Aldo Romano and Michel Portal, among others . In 1995 he moved to New York City , where he founded his own trio with François Moutin and Ari Hoenig . With the trio he performed in the USA and Canada as well as in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Japan. In 2000 the CD Jean-Michel Pilc Trio - Together - Live at Sweet Basil, NYC - Vol. 1 & 2 , followed by the studio album Welcome Home . Pilc's own compositions can also be heard on both. Cardinal Points followed in 2003 . In 2004 Pilc's first solo album Follow Me was released ; In 2005 he recorded - again in a trio line-up - Live at Iridium, New York with bassist Thomas Bramerie and drummer Mark Mondesir . In 2004 he worked on Rosario Giuliani's album More than Ever ; In 2017 he presented the duo album Magic Circle with Sam Newsome .

In addition to working with his trio, he has performed with musicians such as Roy Haynes , Michael Brecker , David Liebman , Jean Toussaint , Rick Margitza , Marcus Miller , Kenny Garrett , Lenny White , Chris Potter , John Abercrombie , Lew Soloff , Elisabeth Kontomanou , JD Walter , Sam Newsome , Lars Graugaard and Richard Bona and was at times the pianist of Harry Belafonte .

In 2000 Pilc was awarded the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt as the best jazz musician in France.
