Cesarius Alvim
Cesarius Alvim (born April 28, 1950 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian jazz musician (piano, double bass, drums). As a composer, he often makes people aware of his Brazilian roots (“Dança da Cobra”, “Escola de samba”).
In his childhood and youth, Alvim came into contact with different musical cultures, with the samba of the favelas as well as with jazz and European art music. In the 1970s he studied double bass at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris . Since the mid-1970s he first recorded a series of albums with Jean-Pierre Mas (mostly in a duo), then he worked with Martial Solal , Marius Constant , the French radio symphony orchestra, the Orchester National de France , Joe Henderson , Eddie Gomez and Lee Konitz .
