Manuel Rocheman
Manuel Rocheman (born July 23, 1964 in Paris ) is a French jazz musician (pianist, composer).
Live and act
Rocheman came from a family of musicians; his maternal grandfather was a flautist, his father, guitarist and actor Lionel Rocheman founded the Hootenanny at the American Center in Paris , where they met musicians from all over the world. Rocheman got up at the age of six and took part in jam sessions in Paris at the invitation of Bob Vatel .
At the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris he took piano lessons from Alberto Neuman , a student of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and attended drum courses. He also worked with the jazz pianists Gabriel Garvanoff and Michel Sardaby .
In 1980 he went to New York, where he met Tommy Flanagan and Jaki Byard . In the same year Vatel introduced him to Martial Solal and he became his only student. Since 1983 he has worked with a trio in Paris; In 1994 he performed in a duo with Solal at the Paris Jazz Festival.
In addition to his solo work, Rocheman performs in a duo with Olivier Ker Ourio and Sara Lazarus . He also worked with musicians such as Anthony Ortega , Sylvain Beuf , Al Foster , Aldo Romano , George Mraz, and Kyle Eastwood . Since 2004 he has been a member of Dusko Goykovich's International Jazz Orchestra . He has also played with Toninho Horta ( Café & Alegria , 2012) and with Rick Margitza .
Awards
In 1989 he became the best French pianist at the Martial Solal Jazz Piano International Competition . His first CD Trio Urbain was named the best CD of the year by the Académie du Jazz in 1991, and his second album White Keys received the Django d'Or (France) the following year . In 1998 the Académie du Jazz awarded him the Prix Django Reinhardt as the best musician of the year. Between 1995 and 2002 he was selected by the Fondation BNP Paribas promoted.
