The western boundary of the municipality mostly runs above the steep drop to the Mouthier basin. history

The Hautepierre, which belonged to Mouthier in the Middle Ages, became independent in 1568. Le Châtelet developed around a former guard post that was expanded into a castle in the 16th century. Together with Franche-Comté, both villages came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1907 when the two previously independent municipalities of Hautepierre and Le Châtelet merged to form a new double municipality.

On January 1, 2009 there was a change in the arrondissement membership of the municipality. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.

The municipality of Hautepierre-le-Châtelet was merged with Nods , Athose , Chasnans , Rantechaux and Vanclans to form the Commune nouvelle Les Premiers Sapins with effect from January 1, 2016 .

Attractions

The church in Hautepierre was built in 1870. In Châtelet, only a few remains of the former castle are visible. A popular excursion destination is the Roche de Hautepierre, from which there is an impressive view of the Loue Valley.
