Nods is a town and commune Déléguée in the municipality of Les Premiers Sapins with 570 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the French department of Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . Nods is the chief town (chief-lieu) of the municipality of Les Premiers Sapins.

geography

Nods is located at 709  m , six kilometers south of Valdahon and about 28 kilometers southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The former street line village extends in the Jura , in a hollow on the southern edge of the Valdahon plateau, the so-called first plateau of the Jura, on the edge of the first high Jura chains.

The area of the 11.78 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the low relief high plateau of Valdahon, which averages 720 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land. With the exception of a small trickle in the area of the village, the plateau has no above-ground running waters because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the south-east, the community area extends into the higher relief area of the first high Jura mountains. It extends over the wooded ridges of the heights of Cicon to the edge of the Seignes moor basin. At 955 m, the highest point of Nods is reached on a knoll above the La Séminaire farmstead.

Neighboring communities of Nods are Étray in the north, Vanclans and Passonfontaine in the east, Arc-sous-Cicon and Chasnans in the south and Vernierfontaine in the west.

history

Nods, which is on the former Roman road from Besançon to Pontarlier , was probably inhabited very early. Since the Middle Ages, the village formed a parish (mentioned in 1113), which was under the ecclesiastical rule of Pontarlier. In 1537 Nods came under the rule of Cicon. Together with Franche-Comté , it came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

On January 1, 2009 there was a change in the arrondissement membership of the municipality. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier. Nods is the seat of the Communauté de Communes des Premiers Sapins .

The municipality of Nods was merged with Athose , Chasnans , Hautepierre-le-Châtelet , Rantechaux and Vanclans to form the Commune nouvelle Les Premiers Sapins with effect from January 1, 2016 .

Today's Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul church was rebuilt in 1762 on the site of the previous medieval building and was last extensively restored in 1992. It has an important organ from 1878. Various typical farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 16th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center. Only a few traces of a former medieval castle are visible on the Durfort ridge.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Nods was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some small and medium-sized businesses, including mechanical and wood processing companies. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the national road N57 , which leads from Besançon to Pontarlier . The village has been relieved of through traffic since 1997 by a local bypass. Other road connections exist with Valdahon, Vanclans, Chasnans and Vernierfontaine.

Partnerships

Since 1988 Nods has maintained a partnership with the eponymous municipality of Nods in the Swiss canton of Bern.
