Arc-sous-Cicon is a French municipality with 665 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Arc-sous-Cicon is located at 793  m , about 16 kilometers north of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a closed basin at the northern foot of the Crêt Monniot , in the heights east of the Loue valley .

The area of the 28.49 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the Arc Basin, which is 2.5 km wide and 6 km long and averages 800 m. It is mainly made up of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some boggy areas. The basin has no noteworthy above-ground running waters because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The Arc basin is flanked on all sides by wooded ridges. To the north are the heights of La Côte ( 957  m ) and the hills of Cicon. In the south, the basin is dominated by the wide ridge of the Crêt Monniot , on which the highest point of Arc-sous-Cicon is reached at 1141 m. This ridge forms an anticline the Jura folds and is in accordance with the scanning direction of the mountain in this region in the direction southwest-northeast oriented. The summit area is covered by pastureland.

In addition to the actual village, Arc-sous-Cicon also includes various hamlets and numerous individual farms, including:

  • Le Plaimbois ( 830  m ) on the eastern edge of the Arc basin
  • Les Cordiers ( 845  m ) at the north foot of the Crêt Monniot
