La Chenalotte is a French municipality with 499 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
La Chenalotte is 934 m above sea level, eight kilometers northeast of Morteau and about 11 kilometers west of the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the southwest of the high plateau of Maîche, at the northern foot of the ridge of the Combe du Plane north of the Doube valley .
The area of the 4.88 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the high plateau of Maîche, which is on average at 930 m. It is predominantly made up of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some smaller forest areas. In the north, the border runs along the Ruisseau des Seignes , a stream that after a short walk through a boggy lowland seeps back into the karstified subsoil. To the south, the community area extends to the height of Combe du Plane . The highest point of La Chenalotte is reached here at 1092 m. The ridge that separates the Maîche plateau from the Doubstal forms an anticline of the Jura from a geological and tectonic point of view and is oriented towards the southwest-northeast according to the direction of the mountains in this region.
Neighboring municipalities of La Chenalotte are Le Bizot and Narbief in the north, Le Barboux in the east, Villers-le-Lac in the south and Noël-Cerneux in the west.
On January 1, 2009 there was a change in the arrondissement membership of the municipality. Previously belonging to the arrondissement of Montbéliard , all municipalities of the canton came to the arrondissement of Pontarlier.
Attractions
The village church of La Chenalotte was built in the 17th century. Various farmhouses from the 18th century in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs have been preserved in the old town center.

With 499 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Chenalotte is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (200 people were still counted in 1886), a marked increase in population has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Chenalotte was a village dominated by agriculture (cattle breeding and dairy farming). In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D437 road from Montbéliard to Morteau. Another road connection is with Le Barboux.
