Villeneuve-d'Amont is a French municipality with 235 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Villeneuve-d'Amont is 680 m above sea level, about 24 kilometers west of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the high plateau of Villeneuve, south of the karst spring of the Lison .
The area of the 14.27 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the plateau of Villeneuve, which belongs to the second Jura plateau, lies at an average of 660 m and is mostly covered by meadows. The plateau is crossed by a dry valley that belongs to the upper catchment area of the Lison. The entire area has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The plateau is bounded by extensive forest areas: to the west by the Bois de Chalem , to the east by the Forêt de Levier and to the south by the Forêt d'Arc . The highest point of Villeneuve-d'Amont is reached here at 727 m.
Neighboring municipalities of Villeneuve-d'Amont are Crouzet-Migette and Gevresin in the north, Levier in the east, Villers-sous-Chalamont and Arc-sous-Montenot in the south and Sainte-Anne in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Villeneuve-d'Amont belonged to the lordship of Montmahoux , which was under the suzerainty of the Lords of Chalon . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2002 Villeneuve-d'Amont has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes Altitude 800, which comprises 11 localities .

Until well into the 20th century, Villeneuve-d'Amont was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy and cattle breeding, as well as forestry.
