Laviron is a French municipality with 334 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Laviron is located at 727 m above sea level, four kilometers north of Pierrefontaine-les-Varans and about 35 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the northern edge of the wide plateau of Pierrefontaine, at the foot of the Peu de Laviron.

The area of the 19.92 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the low relief plateau of Pierrefontaine, which averages 700 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows smaller forest areas and boggy areas. The high plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The northern boundary of this wide high plateau forms a chain of hills, which leads to the much deeper basin of Sancey. From west to east these are the Mont Ormont (840 m), the Peu de Laviron (at 859 m the highest elevation of Laviron) and the height of Le Saucet (782 m).

In addition to the actual village, Laviron also includes various hamlets and numerous individual farms, including:

  • Le Petit-Laviron (730 m) at the southeast foot of the Peu de Laviron
  • La Joux (692 m) on the northern edge of the Pierrefontaine plateau
  • Sous la Faye (705 m) on the northern edge of the Pierrefontaine plateau

Neighboring communities of Laviron are Sancey with Sancey-le-Grand in the north, Surmont and Belleherbe in the east, Pierrefontaine-les-Varans in the south and Landresse in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages Laviron was part of the Belvoir rule . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Laviron is a member of the Portes du Haut-Doubs community of 44 villages .

On January 1, 2009, the arrondissement membership of the municipality was changed. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.

Attractions

Sainte-Trinité church

The Sainte-Trinité church originally dates from the 12th century. In the course of time, numerous redesigns and restorations have been carried out, so that today's building fabric mainly dates back to the 18th century. The bell tower was built from 1750 to 1757. Various farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté have been preserved in the town center.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Laviron was a village dominated by agriculture (agriculture and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small-scale businesses, especially in the wood processing sector. Many workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Sancey-le-Grand to Pierrefontaine-les-Varans. There are further road connections with Landresse, Belleherbe and Chamesey .
