Malbuisson is a French municipality with 855 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Malbuisson is at 885 m above sea level, about 13 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the Haut-Doubs, in an elevated position on a terrace above the south-east bank of the Lac de Saint-Point , at the foot of the Montperreux anticline.
The area of the 6.60 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The north-western border runs along the mostly relatively flat shores of Lac de Saint-Point and extends from the confluence of the Doubs to the alluvial cone of the creek that rises with the Source Bleue, slightly protruding into the lake . Malbuisson, for example, owns a small portion of the swampy plain of the Doube valley in the far west. From the lakeshore, the community area extends eastward over the terrace of Malbuisson to the adjacent, partly wooded, partly pastureland plateau of Montperreux. Here, near the Fort de Saint-Antoine , the highest point of Malbuisson is reached at 1091 m.
The hamlet of Le Vesenay ( 900 m ) on a hill above the eastern shore of Lac de Saint-Point belongs to Malbuisson . Neighboring municipalities of Malbuisson are Montperreux in the north, Touillon-et-Loutelet in the east, Saint-Antoine and Labergement-Sainte-Marie in the south and Saint-Point-Lac in the west.
history
Malbuisson belonged to the Pontarlier rule in the Middle Ages. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area was changed in 1856 when part of the parish of Chaudron (now part of Montperreux) was assigned to the parish of Malbuisson. With the opening of the tramway that ran from Pontarlier via Mouthe to Foncine-le-Haut , Malbuisson was connected to public transport in 1900. The line ceased operations after the Second World War . Today Malbuisson is a member of the Lacs et Montagnes du Haut-Doubs municipal association .

With 855 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Malbuisson is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range of around 280 people, there has been significant population growth since the early 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
For a long time, Malbuisson was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. In addition, there are now a few local small-scale businesses, including wood processing companies, mechanical workshops and a cheese dairy. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
As a resort in a popular excursion area in the High Jura, Malbuisson now also benefits from tourism. The municipality is geared towards both summer tourism (water sports, fishing, hiking, cycling) and winter tourism (especially cross-country skiing). Malbuisson has a marina with a leisure center on Lac de Saint-Point as well as hotels and a campsite.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the D437 departmental road from Pontarlier to Mouthe .
