geography

Bians-les-Usiers lies at 732  m above sea level, about nine kilometers northwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the southeastern edge of the high plateau of Val d'Usiers, at the foot of the Bois des Raffours.

The area of the 14.01 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The north-western part of the area is taken up by the Plateau des Val d'Usiers with the Bians basin, which lies at an average of 730 m and is mostly covered by meadows. A dry valley runs right through the plateau , which topographically belongs to the catchment area of the Loue . To the south-east of Bians-les-Usiers, the approximately 100 m high level of the Bois des Raffours leads over to the high plateau of Pissenavache and La Vrine (at 880 m). The slope is crowned by limestone cliffs in various places. At 919 m, the highest point in Bians-les-Usiers is reached on the summit of Mont Séverin in the Bois des Raffours. The southeastern border runs along the foot of the ridge of the Côte du Fol . The entire area has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

In addition to the actual town center, Bians-les-Usiers also has two hamlets:

  • Vons ( 740  m ) on the Plateau des Val d'Usiers at the foot of the Bois des Raffours
  • Pissenavache ( 860  m ) in a hollow on the high plateau of La Vrine

Neighboring municipalities of Bians-les-Usiers are Évillers in the northwest, Goux-les-Usiers in the northeast, Vuillecin and Dommartin in the southeast and Sombacour in the southwest.
