Mairie Rosureux

Rosureux is a French commune with a population of 78 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Rosureux is located at 440  m , nine kilometers west-southwest of Maîche and about 34 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the deep valley of the Dessoubre , between the heights of Charmoille in the north and the plateau of Maîche in the south.

The area of the 6.14 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the Dessoubre Valley. The Dessoubre flows here from west to east through a flat valley depression that is no more than 300 meters wide. The valley is flanked on both sides by steep, predominantly wooded slopes, which are criss-crossed by ledges in various places. To the south, the community area extends up the slope over the front terrace of La Rochotte to the heights of Bonnétage on the edge of the Maîche plateau. Here, at 972 m, the highest point in Rosureux is reached.

Neighboring municipalities of Rosureux are Charmoille and Vaucluse in the north, Battenans-Varin and Saint-Julien-lès-Russey in the east, Bonnétage and Plaimbois-du-Miroir in the south and Bretonvillers and Longevelle-lès-Russey in the west.

On January 1, 2009 there was a change in the arrondissement membership of the municipality. Previously belonging to the arrondissement of Montbéliard , all municipalities of the canton came to the arrondissement of Pontarlier.

With 78 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Rosureux is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (250 people were counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Rosureux was a village dominated by agriculture (cattle and dairy farming, some arable and fruit growing). In the past, the water power of the Dessoubre was used to operate an oil mill, a sawmill and a nail forge. Today there are some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Saint-Hippolyte to Pierrefontaine-les-Varans . Another road connection is with Vaucluse.
