Fallerans is a French municipality with 284 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Fallerans is 622  m above sea level, five kilometers southwest of Valdahon and about 23 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The 10.78 km² large municipal area is located on the first, slightly relief plateau of the Jura northeast of the Loue valley system , the Valdahon high plateau at an average of 620 m. It is partly made up of arable land and meadows, partly also of forest and rises slightly towards the southeast. Here, at 676 m, Falleran's highest elevation is reached. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the south, the community soil extends to the edge of the Bois de la Bouhard . In the north, the area extends with a narrow tip over the Plateau du Haricot into the hollow of the Combe de Jeuve . This strip of almost 2 km² is part of the Valdahon military training area, which has a total area of 35 km².

Neighboring municipalities of Fallerans are Verrières-du-Grosbois in the north, Valdahon and Étray in the east, Vernierfontaine in the south and Guyans-Durnes and Étalans in the west.

history

Fallerans was mentioned in a document as early as 1161 as a parish. In the Middle Ages, the Fallerans area was under the rule of the Archbishop of Besançon. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Fallerans has been a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierrefontaine-Vercel, comprising 44 localities, since 1998 .

On January 1, 2009, the arrondissement membership of the municipality was changed. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.

Attractions

The current Church of the Discovery of the Relics of St. Stephen ( Église de l'Invention-des-Reliques-de-Saint-Étienne ) was built in the 18th century. Various typical farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 16th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.
