geography
Dompierre-les-Tilleuls is 836 m above sea level, about 13 kilometers west-southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the middle of the wide high plateau of Arlier (Pontarlier-Frasne), northwest of the Montagne du Laveron .
The area of the 12.94 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The whole area is occupied by the high plateau of Arlier, which is on average 850 m. It is mostly covered by meadow land, but also shows some forest areas and moor areas. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. At 887 m, the highest point in Dompierre-les-Tilleuls is reached on a hill on the edge of the Combe de la Rochette valley .
Neighboring communities of Dompierre-les-Tilleuls are Chapelle-d'Huin in the north, La Rivière-Drugeon in the east, Bouverans in the south and Frasne and Boujailles in the west.
history
The municipality of Dompierre-les-Tilleuls was already settled in prehistoric times, which has been proven by excavations in the Bossus tumulus . Objects from the Hallstatt period and the La Tène period were brought to light. Dompierre was first mentioned in documents in 941. The place name is derived from Domus Petrus ( Saint Peter ). In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the La Rivière lordship, which was under the lords of Chalon. Together with Franche-Comté , Dompierre came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other municipalities of the same name, Dompierre was officially renamed Dompierre-les-Tilleuls in 1922. Since 2003, Dompierre-les-Tilleuls has been a member of the communal association Communauté de communes du Plateau de Frasne et du Val du Drugeon, which comprises 10 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul originally dates back to the 12th century. However, today's building fabric mainly dates from the 15th and 17th centuries (ship) and is in Gothic style. The church has a remarkable main altar from the 18th century. In 1825, the Notre-Dame de la Délivrance country chapel was built.
