Montflovin is a French municipality with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Montflovin is located at 855  m , about twelve kilometers northeast of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The street-lined village stretches across the Jura , on a ledge on the sun-exposed slope, slightly elevated above the Doubs , in the Val du Saugeais , north of the Jura heights of the Montagne du Larmont , near the border with Switzerland .

The area of ​​the 3.35 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The southern border runs on a short section along the Doubs, which flows here in a relatively wide valley low to the northeast through the Val du Saugeais . From the course of the river, the community area extends northwards over the gently rising slope, which shows a loose structure of meadow and pasture land and forest, to the Bois de Montflovin and the ridge of Recours, on which the highest elevation of Montflovin reaches at 1060 m becomes.

Neighboring municipalities of Montflovin are La Chaux in the north, La Longeville and Montbenoît in the east, Hauterive-la-Fresse in the south and Maisons-du-Bois-Lièvremont in the west.

With 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Montflovin is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (in 1906 there were still 136 people), the population has continued to grow steadily since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Montflovin was a village dominated by agriculture (dairy farming and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Montbenoît on the main D437 road from Pontarlier to Morteau .
