geography
Les Grangettes is located at 899 m above sea level, about nine kilometers south-southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the Haut-Doubs, on a leveled area in a panoramic position around 50 m above the west bank of the Lac de Saint-Point , on the slope of the ridge of Les Grangettes.
The area of the 5.38 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The eastern border runs along the mostly relatively flat bank of Lac de Saint-Point and extends north to the outflow of the Doubs in the area of a flat muddy valley plain. From the lakeshore, the community area extends westward over the slope of Les Grangettes to the adjacent, predominantly wooded, partly also with pastureland ridge. On this wide ridge, the highest point of Les Grangettes is reached at 997 m. The north-western border runs in the Malpas Depression.
The hamlet of Port-Titi ( 853 m ) on the north bank of Lac de Saint-Point belongs to Les Grangettes . Neighboring municipalities of Les Grangettes are Oye-et-Pallet in the north, Montperreux in the east, Saint-Point-Lac in the south and Malpas in the west.
history
Les Grangettes was first mentioned in the 13th century under the name Grangiis . The current name has been attested since 1683. The place name is derived from the popular Latin word granica (barn). In the Middle Ages, Les Grangettes belonged to the domain of Pontarlier. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 1999, Les Grangettes has been a member of the 19 localities community association Communauté de communes du Mont d'Or et des Deux Lacs .
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built in 1635 and consecrated in 1665. At the beginning of the 20th century the fishermen's houses in Port-Titi were built. The house of Lyons textile manufacturer Louis Neyron, built between 1910 and 1913, is a listed building ( Monument historique ).

With 278 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Les Grangettes is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (174 people were still counted in 1886), a marked increase in population has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s thanks to the attractive residential area.
Economy and Infrastructure
For a long time, Les Grangettes was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
As a resort in a popular excursion area in the High Jura, Les Grangettes now also benefits from tourism. The municipality is mainly geared towards summer tourism and has a leisure zone with a boat harbor and a section of beach on the shores of Lac de Saint-Point.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that runs along the left bank of the Lac de Saint-Point. Another road connection is with Malpas.
