Domprel is a French municipality with 180 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Domprel is located at 708 m above sea level, six kilometers west-southwest of Pierrefontaine-les-Varans and about 34 kilometers east of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the western part of the wide plateau of Pierrefontaine, at the southern foot of the Bois de la Côte.
The area of the 9.40 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the low relief plateau of Pierrefontaine, which averages 700 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows smaller forest areas. The high plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The northern boundary runs on the wooded ridge of the Bois de la Côte , on which the highest point of Domprel is reached at 789 m. The community area extends to the southeast over the plateau in the Bois des Buchets and to the edge of the deeply cut valley of the Reverotte (tributary of the Dessoubre ).
Neighboring communities of Domprel are Villers-Chief and Germéfontaine in the north, La Sommette in the east, Loray in the south and Grandfontaine-sur-Creuse and Eysson in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Domprel belonged to the Passavant estate , which had belonged to the lords of Montbéliard since the 14th century. In the 18th century the village was ruled by the Counts of Salins. Today Domprel is a member of the Portes du Haut-Doubs municipal association .
On January 1, 2009, the arrondissement membership of the municipality was changed. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.
Attractions
The village church of Domprel was built in the 19th century. There are several traditional wells in the village. A stone wayside cross ( Monument historique ) dates from the 16th century.

With 180 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Domprel is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (312 people were still counted in 1881), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Domprel was a village dominated by agriculture (cattle breeding and dairy farming, arable farming). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pierrefontaine-les-Varans to Vercel-Villedieu-le-Camp . Further road connections exist with Germéfontaine and La Sommette.
