Reculfoz is a French commune with a population of 41 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Reculfoz is located at 1016  m above sea level, about 27 kilometers southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the valley basin of the Combes Dernières south of the Haute Joux chain.

The area of the 2.54 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley basin of the Combes Dernières ( 1010  m ), which in structural and geological terms forms a syncline of the Jura folds . At the deepest point below the village, the valley is moored, but has no surface running water because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. This valley basin is flanked in the south by the peaks of the Bois de Ban (up to 1080 m). In the north, the municipal area extends to the thickly wooded, wide ridge of the Haute Joux in the area of the summit of Saint-Sorlin . Here, at 1212 m, Reculfoz's highest elevation is reached. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).

Neighboring municipalities of Reculfoz are Cerniébaud in the north, Les Pontets and Mouthe in the east, Petite-Chaux in the south and Le Crouzet in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages Reculfoz belonged to the Mouthe dominion. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Reculfoz is a member of the Lacs et Montagnes du Haut-Doubs municipal association .

After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (59 people were counted in 1886), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Reculfoz was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Chaux-Neuve to Remoray-Boujeons .
