Plaimbois-Vennes is a French municipality with 102 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Plaimbois-Vennes is 760 m above sea level, four kilometers south of Pierrefontaine-les-Varans and about 40 kilometers east of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a terrace on a slope inclined to the north over the deeply cut valley of the Reverotte , south of the plateau of Pierrefontaine.
The area of the 10.80 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The northern border always runs along the Reverotte, which drains the area in a deep erosion valley to the east to Dessoubre . The steep, wooded slopes are criss-crossed by ledges in various places. They are subdivided by short channels of erosion , including that of Vermondans. From the course of the stream, the municipal area extends southwards over the terrace of Plaimbois to the adjacent Jura ridge that separates the Reverotte valley from the Vennes basin. This ridge forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented in the south-west-north-east direction according to the direction of the mountain range. At 1007 m above the village, the highest point of Plaimbois-Vennes is reached.
Neighboring municipalities of Plaimbois-Vennes are La Sommette and Pierrefontaine-les-Varans in the north, Plaimbois-du-Miroir in the east, Guyans-Vennes and Vennes in the south and Loray in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Plaimbois-Vennes belonged to the Vennes domain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Plaimbois-Vennes is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierrefontaine-Vercel .
On January 1, 2009, the arrondissement membership of the municipality was changed. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.
Attractions
The village church of Plaimbois-Vennes was consecrated in 1778. Ruins of the medieval castle Château Vieux have been preserved. Natural attractions in the area include the ravine valley of the Reverotte (Défilé des Epais Rochers) and the Vermondans waterfall.

With 102 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Plaimbois-Vennes is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (256 people were still counted in 1891), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Plaimbois-Vennes was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (dairy and cattle breeding, arable farming) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are almost no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pierrefontaine-les-Varans to Loray.
