Flangebouche is a French municipality with 779 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Flangebouche is located 728 m above sea level, ten kilometers east of Valdahon and about 36 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the middle of the Avoudrey basin, north of Mont Chaumont .

The area of the 23.27 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the low relief basin of Avoudrey, which has a width of about 4 km and a length of almost 10 km and averages 720 m. It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. Flangebouche itself lies in the wide hollow of a dry valley , which topographically belongs to the catchment area of the Reverotte (tributary of the Dessoubre ). The landscape has various hollows and knolls.

To the south, an approximately 50 to 100 m high, wooded step leads over to the higher Jura ranges. The municipal area extends with a narrow tip over a series of parallel ridges (oriented in the southwest-northeast direction according to the direction of the mountain range) with intervening depressions (pastureland) to the wide anticline of Mont Chaumont. At 1056 m, the highest elevation of Flangebouche is reached on the northeastern roof of this ridge.

Neighboring municipalities of Flangebouche are Grandfontaine-sur-Creuse in the north, Loray and Orchamps-Vennes in the east, Gilley in the south and Longemaison and Avoudrey in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Flangebouche belonged to the Vercel domain . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Lignite was mined at Flangebouche in the 20th century. Today Flangebouche is a member of the Portes du Haut-Doubs municipal association .
