Brice Parain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brice Parain (* 1897 in Jouarre , Département Seine-et-Marne , † 1971 in Verdelot ) was a French philosopher and essayist who critically accompanied the great intellectual and political currents of his time. He reflected on the communism , the surrealism and the existentialism , the failure of which he was in his early works Essay misère humaine (1934) and Retour à la France forecasted (1936). He dealt intensively with problems of language and the origins and development of words. This is evident from his later works, Recherches sur la nature et la fonction du langage (1943, published in German under the title Investigations on the nature and function of language ) and Sur la dialectique (1953). Charles Blanchard called him the "Sherlock Holmes of Language". He was a close friend of Albert Camus and was involved in Le 14 Juillet magazine against Charles de Gaulle's return to power in 1958.

Remarkable

In Jean-Luc Godard's film The Story of Nana S. Brice Parain played a philosopher who exchanged views on various philosophical issues with the main character in the film.
