Mairie Renédale

Renédale is a French commune with a population of 40 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Renédale is located at 742  m , about 14 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the extreme north of the high plateau of Val d'Usiers, west of the karst spring and the deeply carved erosion valley of the Loue .

The area of the 2.88 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the high plateau des Val d'Usiers, which lies at an average of 740  m and is partly covered by meadows and partly by forest. The plateau has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The western boundary is the Bois de Cudrette , where Renédale's highest peak is reached at 768  m . The plateau is bounded in the north and east by the steep drop to the deeply cut erosion valley of the Loue with the Gorges de Nouailles, which is lined with numerous rock walls . The municipal boundary mostly runs along the upper edge of the steep slope.

Neighboring municipalities of Renédale are Mouthier-Haute-Pierre in the north and Ouhans in the south.

history

In the Middle Ages, Renédale formed its own rule. However, only a few remains of the former castle are visible. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 40 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Renédale is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. Throughout the 20th century, the population was always between around 30 and 50 people.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Renédale was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a local road that leads from the D41 near Ouhans to the lookout point on the Rochers du Capucin (above Mouthier-Haute-Pierre).
