Le Crouzet is a French commune with a population of 59 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Le Crouzet is located at 1028 m above sea level, about 28 kilometers southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies) approximately in the middle of the air line between Besançon and Geneva . It is located in the Jura Mountains , in the Combes Derniers basin south of the Haute Joux chain.
Most of the 3.77 km² municipal area lies in the valley of the Combes Derniers ( 1020 m ), which forms a syncline of the Jura folds in structural and geological terms . This valley basin is flanked in the south by the peaks of the Bois de Ban ( 1095 m ). In the north, the community area extends to the thickly wooded wide ridge of the Haute Joux . The highest point of Le Crouzet is reached here at 1212 m. The entire area shows no surface watercourses, as the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).
Neighboring municipalities of Le Crouzet are Fraroz and Cerniébaud in the north, Reculfoz in the east and Petite-Chaux and Chaux-Neuve in the south.
In addition to Le Crouzet, the municipalities of Reculfoz , Les Pontets and Rondefontaine are in the Combes Derniers.

With 59 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Le Crouzet is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased drastically in the first half of the 20th century (107 people were counted in 1886), the number of inhabitants and houses has increased significantly again since the beginning of the 21st century.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Le Crouzet was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. Today only one resident lives from the dairy industry. Some of the employed are commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns and in nearby Switzerland.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Chaux-Neuve to Remoray-Boujeons through the Combes Derniers.
