Plaimbois-du-Miroir is located at 824 m , 16 kilometers north of Morteau and about 17 kilometers northwest of the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds (beeline). The village extends in the Jura , on a plateau in the far west of the Maîche plateau , above the deeply cut valley of the Dessoubre .
The area of the 11.71 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the undulating plateau, which averages 850 m. It consists mainly of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some forest areas. To the east, the terrain rises to the wooded heights of La Vie au Loup ( 943 m ), Le Virot ( 945 m ) and Champs du Bois (at 975 m, the highest point of Plaimbois-du-Miroir).
To the west the high plateau ends in the rocky promontory of the Rocher du Miroir ( 836 m ). It is bordered in the west and north by the 350 m deep valley of the Dessoubre, whose wooded slopes ( Côte Barbier ) are criss-crossed by striking limestone walls in various places. The winding course of the Dessoubre usually forms the northern boundary of the area. With the Côte de Parfondbief , a section of the steep left slope of the Dessoubre also belongs to Plaimbois-du-Miroir.
Neighboring municipalities of Plaimbois-du-Miroir are Bretonvillers and Rosureux in the north, Bonnétage in the east, Montbéliardot and Mont-de-Laval in the south and Laval-le-Prieuré , Guyans-Vennes and Plaimbois-Vennes in the west.

With 246 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Plaimbois-du-Miroir is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had declined markedly in the first half of the 20th century (362 people were still counted in 1886), slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Plaimbois-du-Miroir was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (cattle and dairy farming, some arable farming). The water power of the Dessoubre was previously used to run a sawmill and a mill ( Moulin de Girardot ). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. Road connections exist with Bonnétage, Le Luhier and Laval-le-Prieuré.
