Les Pontets is a French municipality with 135 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Les Pontets is located at 1008  m above sea level, about 25 kilometers southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the valley of the Combes Dernières south of the Haute Joux chain with the Turchet and north of the Val de Mouthe.

The area of the 6.36 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley basin of the Combes Dernières ( 1005  m ), which in structural and geological terms forms a syncline of the Jura folds . This valley basin is moored at the deepest points and in the far southwest there is a small moor pond. However, the area does not show any surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. This valley basin is flanked in the south by the peaks of Les Esseux ( 1071  m ). In the north, the municipality extends to the thickly wooded ridge of the Haute Joux with the two peaks Turchet ( 1227  m ) and Saint-Sorlin , on which the highest point of Les Pontets is reached at 1237 m. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).

Neighboring municipalities of Les Pontets are Cerniébaud and Mignovillard in the north, Rondefontaine in the east, Mouthe in the south and Reculfoz in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Les Pontets belonged to the Mouthe domain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Les Pontets is a member of the Communauté de communes des Hauts du Doubs, which comprises 13 localities .

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Les Pontets was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including a cheese factory and a sawmill. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Chaux-Neuve to Remoray-Boujeons . Further road connections exist with Mouthe and Nozeroy .
