Jasná is a winter sports center and the largest winter sports area in Slovakia . It stretches on both sides of the main ridge of the Low Tatras on the slopes of the 2024  m nm high Chopok mountain and the 2003  m nm high Dereše mountain . Administratively, the area from Jasná falls to the municipality of Demänovská Dolina north and Horná Lehota south of the main ridge.

There is a transport connection through the Poprad-Tatry airport, 68 kilometers away, or through the Liptovský Mikuláš train station on the Košice – Žilina railway, 17 kilometers away . Jasná is about 300 kilometers from the capital Bratislava .

Winter sports

The winter sports season begins in Jasná at the beginning of December and lasts until mid-May, depending on the snow conditions. The winter sports area offers a total of 23 lifts, including five gondola lifts, eight chair lifts, five ski lifts and five conveyor belts for children. There are 50 kilometers of slopes, including 14 blue (easy) and red (medium) and five black (difficult) slopes as well as six ski routes . Most of them are also completely or partially supervised by snow cannons. Night skiing is possible on a slope (Biela Púť). There are also official freeride zones on both sides of the Chopok and Dereše mountains.

There are two cross-country trails with a total length of seven kilometers.

On the north side, the ski area begins in Lúčky with an altitude of 943  m nm . Accommodation can be found in Záhradky ( 1028  m nm ), Biela Púť ( 1117  m nm ), Otupné ( 1141  m nm ) and Jasná ( 1226  m nm ). The highest point of the ski area is the mountain station of the two gondola lifts below Chopok at 2004  m nm.On the south side, the beginning is in Krupová ( 1084  m nm ), with accommodations in Srdiečko ( 1213  m nm ) and Kosodrevina ( 1488  m nm ).

Alpine skiing

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Jasná ski area hosted various ski world cups . In 2016, after a 32-year break, a World Cup race in the giant and special women's slalom took place.
