Farm stays in Rondefontaine

Rondefontaine is a French commune with a population of 34 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Rondefontaine is 1028  m above sea level, about 23 kilometers southwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a longitudinal basin south of the Haute Joux chain and north of the Val de Mouthe.

The area of the 2.72 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the narrow longitudinal valley, the lowest point of which is in the moored Les Biez valley south of the village. However, the area does not show any surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the south-east, the communal soil extends to the wooded heights of the Bois de la Pila ( 1078  m ), which separates the Rondefontaine basin from the Val de Mouthe. To the north, the municipality extends to the thickly wooded ridge of the Haute Joux . On the northeastern foothills of the Turchet , the highest point of Rondefontaine is reached at 1186 m. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).

Neighboring municipalities of Rondefontaine are Mignovillard in the north, Remoray-Boujeons and Sarrageois in the east, Mouthe in the south and Les Pontets in the west.

history

The place name is derived from the Latin word fons (fountain) and the French word ronde (round). In the Middle Ages, Rondefontaine belonged to the Mouthe domain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Rondefontaine is a member of the Lacs et Montagnes du Haut-Doubs municipal association .

Attractions

Some characteristic farmhouses in the traditional style of the Upper Jurassic from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Rondefontaine was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Chaux-Neuve to Remoray-Boujeons. Further road connections exist with Mouthe and Mignovillard.
