The Communauté de communes du Mont d'Or et des Deux Lacs was named after the Mont d'Or , a mountain range of the Jura and the two lakes Lac de Saint-Point and Lac de Remoray . The area covers part of the Upper Jura and borders on Switzerland to the east and south . The main settlement areas are the valleys of the Doubs and the Bief Rouge at the northern foot of the Mont d'Or and the banks of the Lac de Saint-Point. The settlements are located at heights between 850 and 1000 meters above sea level. In the south, the area is flanked by the chains of the Folded Jura with the Mont d'Or, the Morond and the Montagne de l'Herba, up to 1460 m high , while the chains of the Haute Joux (up to 1151 m) and the Montagne du Laveron (1112 m) rise. The mountain ranges are mostly made up of spruce forests. In particular on the Mont d'Or and in the area of Les Fourgs there is also extensive meadow and pasture land. Dairy farming and cattle breeding predominate in the valleys. The most important watercourses are the Doubs, its tributaries Bief Rouge, Drésine and Ruisseau de Fontaine Ronde and the Jougnena, which drains south to the Orbe .
