geography
Verrières-du-Grosbois is 585 m above sea level, eight kilometers northwest of Valdahon and about 19 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the northern edge of the wide plateau of Valdahon, the so-called first plateau of the Jura, at the eastern foot of the heights of the Côte d'Anroz .
The area of the former municipality covered a section of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the low relief high plateau of Valdahon, which is here on average at 580 m. It shows a loose structure of farmland, meadows and forests. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the south and south-east, the soil reached into the extensive forest area of the Forêt du Grosbois , with the eastern boundary running along the valley of the Combe de Jeuve . At 635 m , the highest point of Verrières-du-Grosbois was reached on the Petit Mont , a height at the foot of the Côte d'Anroz. In the east, the community area had a share of around 2.5 km² in the Valdahon military training area, which takes up a total of 35 km².
Neighboring towns of Verrières-du-Grosbois are Naisey-les-Granges and Gonsans in the north, Vercel-Villedieu-le-Camp and Valdahon in the east, Fallerans and Étalans in the south and L'Hôpital-du-Grosbois in the west.
history
Verrières-du-Grosbois developed in the 16th century at a glassworks. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. From 1998 Verrières-du-Grosbois was a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierrefontaine-Vercel, comprising 44 localities .
On January 1, 2009, the arrondissement membership of the municipality was changed. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Verrières-du-Grosbois was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on the D492, which leads from Baume-les-Dames to Ornans .
