history
Etalans is first mentioned in a document in 1049 under the name Estalanus . In the Middle Ages, the area around the village was subordinate to different lords, namely the lords of Montfaucon and the noble family of Durnes. The Archbishop of Besançon also owned land here, on which he probably had a castle built around 1260. Also around this time, Étalans was granted certain freedoms. During the Thirty Years War , the castle and the village were looted and destroyed in 1639 by the troops of Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Weimar . Together with the Franche-Comté , Étalans came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 1998, Étalans has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierrefontaine-Vercel, comprising 44 localities .
On January 1, 2009 there was a change in the arrondissement membership of the municipality. Previously belonging to the Arrondissement Besançon , all municipalities of the canton came to the Arrondissement Pontarlier.
