Mairie Guyans-Durnes |
Guyans-Durnes is a French municipality with 280 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Guyans-Durnes is located at 599 m above sea level, eight kilometers east of Ornans and about 21 kilometers southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The former street-line village extends in the Jura , to the west of the Valdahon plateau, north of the Loue valley .
The area of the 9.03 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the Valdahon plateau, which averages 580 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land, partly also of forest, and rises slightly to the southeast. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. In the far south-east, the communal soil extends to the edge of the Bois de la Bouhard forest area . Here, at 615 m, the highest point in Guyans-Durnes is reached. To the north, the municipality extends over the valley section of the Ruisseau de la Brême up to the height of Charbonnières-les-Sapins.
Neighboring municipalities of Guyans-Durnes are
- Étalans with Charbonnières-les-Sapins and Étalans in the north,
- Fallerans and Vernierfontaine in the east,
- Voires and Durnes in the south,
- Saules to the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Guyans-Durnes was part of the Durnes domain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Guyans-Durnes is a member of the Portes du Haut-Doubs municipal association .
Attractions
The three-aisled Saint-Martin church was renovated and enlarged between 1850 and 1854. The so-called Château is located in the village, a late medieval mansion that was extensively restored in 1880. Various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 18th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.

With 280 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Guyans-Durnes is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (282 people were counted in 1891), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Guyans-Durnes was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Montgesoye to Étalans. Other road connections exist with Saules and Vernierfontaine.
