history
Mazerolles was first mentioned in documents in 1452. The place name is probably derived from the Latin word maceriola , a diminutive form of maceria (wall kneaded from clay). In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Audeux dominion. Together with Franche-Comté , Mazerolles finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1791 almost the entire village was destroyed by a major fire. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Mazerolles was officially renamed Mazerolles-le-Salin in 1919. Today Mazerolles-le-Salin is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération du Grand Besançon .
