Mairie Lombard |
Lombard is a French municipality with 190 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Lombard is located at 290 m , south of Quingey , about 22 kilometers southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the western Jura , on the western edge of a basin of the Loue between the heights of the Côte de Moini in the west and the Bois du Landet in the east.
The area of the municipal area of 5.92 km² covers a section of the western French Jura. The area is limited to the east by the Loue. Here it flows south through a wide basin, which is framed by the outermost mountain ranges of the Jura. From the course of the river, the community area extends westward over the flat valley floodplain to the adjacent, predominantly wooded ridge. To the southwest of the village is the Chataillon ( 420 m ), to the northwest the Côte de Moini , on which Lombard's highest elevation is reached at 493 m. In between there is a saddle that leads west to the Liesle basin. The ridge stretches south from Quingey to the breakthrough of the Loue at Rennes-sur-Loue.
Lombard's neighboring municipalities are Byans-sur-Doubs and Quingey in the north, Lavans-Quingey and Pessans in the east, Brères and Mesmay in the south and Liesle in the west.
history
Lombard was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. From the Middle Ages Lombard belonged to the rule and Castlanei Quingey. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church was built in 1712 on the site of a medieval chapel and was last extensively restored in 1992. Various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center. There is a mill by the Loue.

With 190 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Lombard is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (254 people were counted in 1881), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Lombard was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Quingey to Arc-et-Senans . There are other road connections with Brères and Fourg.
