Amathay-Vésigneux is a French municipality with 163 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Amathay-Vésigneux lies at 671 m above sea level, about ten kilometers south-southeast of Ornans and 27 km southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The double community extends in the Jura , in a valley basin on the southeastern edge of the Amancey plateau , at the northern foot of the Bois du Désert.
The area of the 12.13 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Amathay basin, which is 660 m on average. It is drained from the Ruisseau de Raffenot to the northeast to the Loue . In the north, the community soil extends to the undulating plateau of the Amancey plateau (up to 719 m). It is mostly made up of meadows, but also has some larger forest areas. To the south, the municipal area extends over the wooded ridge of the Bois du Désert , which forms an anticline in geological and tectonic terms and is oriented towards west-south-west-east-north-east according to the direction of the Jura in this region. Here, at 921 m, the highest point in Amathay-Vésigneux is reached.
The double community consists of the districts of Amathay ( 670 m ) and Vésigneux ( 660 m ) in the valley basin at the north foot of the Bois du Désert. Neighboring communities of Amathay-Vésigneux are Chantrans in the north, Longeville in the east, Évillers and Septfontaines in the south and Levier and Reugney in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Amathay and Vésigneux belonged to the Maillot rule. The parish church is mentioned in a document in the 13th century. Together with Franche-Comté , both villages came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Amathay and Vésigneux have formed a double municipality since the time of the French Revolution .
Attractions
Today's Saint-Martin church in Vésigneux was rebuilt from 1874 to 1875 and last restored in 1996. In front of the church there is a 15th century Calvaire .

After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (426 people were still counted in 1896), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Amathay-Vésigneux was primarily a village characterized by agriculture, in particular dairy and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on Departementsstrasse 32, which leads from Amancey to Lods. Further road connections exist with Septfontaines and Chantrans.
