history
The first written mention of Velesmes is from 1289 (under the name of Vilema ); Velimme has been handed down from 1385 . In the Middle Ages, Velesmes first belonged to the Thoraise lordship and, after the estate was divided, to the Torpes lordship. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other municipalities of the same name, Velesmes was officially renamed Velesmes-Essarts in 1922.

One of the sights of Velesmes-Essarts is the village fountain, which was created in 1821 and has been restored several times since then.

In addition, there are now various small and medium-sized businesses, especially in the surface treatment and transport industries. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.
