Trépot is a French municipality with 532 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Trépot is located 551 m above sea level, about twelve kilometers southeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the extreme west of the Valdahon plateau, south of Mont Bon and north of the Loue valley .
The area of the 14.50 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the slightly undulating plateau of Trépot, which is an average of 530 m. It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land, partly also of forest. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. That is why various karst phenomena can be found here, such as the Gouffre du Paradis and Gouffre de La Chenaux caves . To the north, the municipality extends to the ridge of Mont Bon , on which the highest elevation of Trépot is reached at 661 m. In the east, the community area extends into the forest area of the Forêt du Gros Bois and into the Combe Madame valley .
Neighboring municipalities of Trépot are Mamirolle in the north, L'Hôpital-du-Grosbois and Charbonnières-les-Sapins in the east, Tarcenay-Foucherans with Foucherans in the south and Le Gratteris in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages Trépot belonged to the Montfaucon dominion . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Trépot is a member of the Loue-Lison Municipal Association .

With 532 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Trépot is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (in 1901 there were still 373 people), there has been significant population growth again since the beginning of the 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Trépot was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area or in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Mamirolle to Ornans . There are other road connections with Tarcenay and L'Hôpital-du-Grosbois.
The Trépot station on the L'Hôpital-du-Grosbois-Lods railway line has been closed like the entire line.
