Thurey-le-Mont is a French municipality with 129 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Thurey-le-Mont is located at 240 m , about 17 kilometers north-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on a slightly elevated position on the eastern edge of the Ognon valley , north of the ridge of the Grande Côte in the extreme northwest of the Doubs department.
The area of the 4.83 km² municipal area includes a section of the Ognon Valley. The western border runs along the Ognon, which flows here with large river loops through a flat valley low about one kilometer wide. Former gravel pits in the valley were filled with water. From the course of the river, the municipal area extends to the east over the wide floodplain into a gently undulating landscape, which is partly made up of arable and meadow land, and further to the east, mainly forest ( Bois de la Chaille , Bois Bas ). At 283 m, the highest point in Thurey-le-Mont is reached on a hill in the Bois Bas. In the far east, the area extends to the foot of the Bois du Mont ridge .
Neighboring municipalities of Thurey-le-Mont are Valleroy in the north, Rigney in the east, Moncey in the south and Aulx-lès-Cromary and Chambornay-lès-Bellevaux in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Thurey was part of the domain of Châtillon-le-Duc . Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Thurey was officially renamed Thurey-le-Mont in 1923. Today the village is part of the Doubs Baumois municipal association .

Since then the population has almost doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Thurey-le-Mont was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now various local small businesses. The most important employer, however, is a company in the food industry (manufacture of pastries) that employs around 150 people.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Moncey to Cirey . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is 13 kilometers away.
