Corcondray is a French municipality with 144 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Corcondray is located at an altitude of 225  m above sea level, about 15 kilometers west of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the gently undulating landscape between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, in the basin of the Ruisseau de Corcondray near its confluence with the Ruisseau de Pommeau .

The area of ​​the 5.38 km² municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The area is slightly undulating and consists mainly of arable and meadow land, there are also some forest areas. From east to west it is crossed by the valley of the Ruisseau de Corcondray , which receives an inflow through various side streams and provides drainage via the Ruisseau de Pommeau and the Ruisseau de Recologne to the Ognon. The valley basins are flanked by hills, which usually tower above the valley floodplains by less than 50 meters. At 298 m, the highest point of Corcondray is reached on the watershed between Ognon and Doubs in the far south.

The hamlet of L'Étang ( 235  m ) in a valley south of the village belongs to Corcondray . Neighboring communities of Corcondray are Lavernay in the north, Villers-Buzon in the east, Pouilley-Français and Saint-Vit in the south and Ferrières-les-Bois and Corcelles-Ferrières in the west.

history

Since the 13th century Corcondray formed its own small rule under the sovereignty of the Dukes of Burgundy. The castle was set on fire by French troops in 1477. Together with Franche-Comté , Corcondray finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Corcondray is a member of the Val Marnaysien municipal association .

Tower ruins of the former manor house

The Saint-Pierre-et-Paul church was built in the 17th century. The roughly 20 m high, mighty square tower of the former manor house from the 13th century has been preserved. The old town center is characterized by various houses from the 17th to 19th centuries in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté.

With 144 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Corcondray is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. Throughout the 20th century, the population was always between 90 and 130 people.

Economy and Infrastructure

Corcondray was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Franois to Lantenne-Vertière . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around nine kilometers away. There are other road connections with Lavernay and Ferrières-les-Bois.
