Cessey is a French municipality with 333 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Cessey is located at 320 m , about 16 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the western Jura , on a terrace on the lower western slope of Mont de Cessey, around 50 m above the course of the Loue .
The area of the 7.53 km² large municipality covers a section of the western French Jura. The area is limited to the west by the Loue, which flows here in a winding course through an approximately one kilometer wide valley to the southwest. From the course of the river, the community area extends eastward over the terrace of Cessey to the wooded ridge of the Mont de Cessey . This mountain is part of a Jura chain that stretches from Mont Poupet to the loop of the Loue river. At 534 m, it forms the highest point in Cessey. The municipality also has a share in the plateau ( 400 m ) that borders the Mont de Cessey to the east.
The hamlet of Grange-du-Fourneau ( 425 m ) on a saddle north of Mont de Cessey belongs to Cessey. Neighboring communities of Cessey are Chenecey-Buillon in the north, Charnay and Palantine in the east, Lavans-Quingey in the south and Quingey and Chouzelot in the west.
Attractions
The town hall ( mairie ) was built in 1834. In the old town center, various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.

With 333 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Cessey is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (211 people were still counted in 1881), a marked increase in population has been recorded since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then, the number of inhabitants has more than quadrupled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Cessey was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares near a department road that leads from Quingey to Épeugney . Another road connection exists with Charnay.
