Autechaux is a French municipality with 420 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Autechaux is located at 430  m , four kilometers northeast of Baume-les-Dames and about 32 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon , on the southern edge of the high plateau Les Mondrevaux, at the north foot of the Framont.

The area of the 6.59 km² large municipal area includes a section in the extreme northwestern mountain ranges of the Jura . The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 420 m. It is mainly made up of arable land and meadows, but also shows some larger forest areas, especially in the northeast. The plateau is flanked on its south side by the ridge of the Framont , which separates it from the adjacent Doubstal and continues to the east at the height of La Plaine Fin. At 505 m, Autechaux's highest point is reached at the predominantly wooded height. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil . The Trou de la Roche cave is one of the karst features of the region .

In addition to the actual location, Autechaux also includes the settlements:

  • La Tuilerie ( 435  m ) at the crossroads at the north foot of the Framont
  • La Plaine Fin ( 460  m ) in a hollow on the edge of the plateau

Neighboring communities of Autechaux are Vergranne in the north, Voillans in the east, Baume-les-Dames in the south and Luxiol and Verne in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Autechaux was part of the domain of Clerval , which had been under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century . The Reformation was introduced under their rule .

Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The previously independent La Vreville was merged with Autechaux in 1806. Today Autechaux is part of the Doubs Baumois municipal association .

With 420 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Autechaux is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (192 people were still counted in 1891), a striking population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has almost tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Autechaux was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. There are also some local small businesses in the old town center. Autechaux today benefits from the nearby motorway connection. Since 1992, the Europoly commercial and industrial zone has been created north-west of the village and now covers an area of around 15 hectares. Companies from the plastics industry, precision mechanics and metal processing as well as logistics companies have settled here. A further expansion of the industrial zone is planned.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road D50, which leads from Baume-les-Dames to Villersexel . The nearest connection to the A36 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is about two kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Clerval, Luxiol, Verne and Vergranne.
